It’s been a good winter season so far in Red River and at the Rio Colorado. We have received a bit more snow this year than the original forecast seemed to predict. The skiing, snowmobiling, sledding and other winter activities have been great. Despite the warmer temperatures over the past couple weeks the snow is holding up very well. With President’s day weekend almost over, we are making our final push through the winter season. We still have some openings through February and March, so give us a call if you’re still thinking about coming up this winter. The ski area will be open through March 21st.

Speaking of beautiful snow and scenic views, my favorite is typically from the bridge on our property. Up river or down river provides some nice views. I especially love the frost and the snow-covered willows.

The view from the top of the Silver Lift at the Red River Ski Area also has some great views. Looking across the valley to the range on the other side or down the backside toward the Aspen grove, either view is breath-taking in the winter, especially after a nice snowstorm!

We were saddened by the loss of our cat Angel this year. She was suffering from liver failure and we had to eventually put her to sleep. Most of you would remember her as the mean, grumpy, black cat who guarded our house and kept all the mice and chipmunks away! We will definitely miss her but by summer maybe we’ll have another Rio Colorado guard cat (hopefully a little less grumpy!)

Other than that, things have been moving along as they always do in Red River. This past week we were finally upgraded to the Yellow Status in Taos County which means restaurants can start indoor dining once again at 25% capacity, increased lodging and retail capacity too. The 14-day quarantine order for travelers has also been lifted statewide. Masks are still required in public places and we strongly encourage our visitors to abide by these requests. Hopefully conditions will continue to improve and we can return to our regular activities for the Summer.

Speaking of Summer, we are already filling up very quickly for June and July but do have more availability in May and August. Make sure you give us a call soon to book your reservations. We look forward to a productive and relaxing off-season and starting our preparations for a busy Summer. We Hope to see you soon!
