The off-season is always a busy time for us in Red River. We have been working on cleaning up the grounds from our wonderful winter season, Spring cleaning all our cabins and finishing up some of our Spring projects. We have been working hard to get Rio Colorado Cabins ready for all our summer guests. It is always a pleasure when our guests notice the improvements we have made in the last year.

Easter weekend was a very busy weekend this year. We were almost completely booked for the weekend and it was nice hearing the sounds of the children and families enjoying themselves. A few even tried fishing for some of last year’s elusive left over trout while others hid or hunted Easter Eggs.

We have had several bear sightings the past couple of weeks, so we are now having to be mindful of the need to keep dumpsters closed, not storing food in our vehicles and remembering to stay aware of our surroundings while hiking. We love our bears and guests and want to keep both safe.

We have added our pond fountain and aerator this week and are one step closer to stocking our pond with Rainbow trout. Our first 300 pounds of fish will be arriving on or near May 8th. Watching the fish enter the pond is a favorite experience of our guests, young or old.  The children squeal with delight and run to grab their fishing poles, sure that they will catch “the biggest one.”  The excited sounds of adults watching the fish release is a very rewarding experience as well. The pond is easily one of our greatest attractions.

We are not only preparing for our first delivery of fish, but also for The Memorial Day Run Weekend. This motorcycle rally is the kick off for our summer season. For those who attend, the rush of engines, the park alive with people looking for that favorite memento, live music, tattoo and bike contests, and other special events, and just spending time with those who share a passion for motorcycles makes that weekend one of great memories. Adding to the excitement this year, multi-platinum artists Warrant and Lita Ford will be performing Friday and Saturday nights respectively, so make sure to buy your tickets soon!

If motorcycles aren’t your thing then consider coming up for our Second ever Bacon and Brews festival May 17th and 18th. Local breweries and eateries will be on hand with some of their best beer and bacon-themed food offerings, along with other art vendors so there’s usually something for everyone to enjoy.

So, whether you enjoy the peace and quiet of sitting on the porch or fishing at our pond, festivals in the park, or the thrill of the motorcycles rumbling in our town, there’s a perfect time for you here at the Rio Colorado! Give us a call and book today!
