It’s Christmas time in the Mountains! What is your favorite thing to do when it snows? Whether it is getting up early to be one of the first people on the mountain to ski, taking a sleigh ride down Main Street, enjoying one of our many cozy restaurants, walking around to absorb the beauty of our little town, enjoying our wildlife, or snuggling up to the fireplace with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa, we have your activity of choice. If you aren’t here, you are missing out.
We are expecting new snow this weekend, and more predicted for Christmas! With over 40 inches of snow, and more in the forecast, this is going to be a great
winter! The torchlight parade and fireworks are happening every Saturday night and they are beautiful. A must see if you are joining us this winter.
When exploring, you may be blessed with sightings of impressive wildlife. While our bears are tucked in for a winter nap, we have several bobcats around our mountains and they will sometimes grace you with an appearance and a photo op. Our deer are still friendly and want to check out visitors daily. The ducks have taken to the river and the town pond that usually has an unfrozen spot or two for them to swim, but they still like to trek through
our grounds to see what we might have to offer.
With the holiday season in full force, you can see beautiful Christmas lights up all around town. The City personnel worked diligently to have our park ready for the season, putting up lights and decorations in some extremely cold weather. We have ours up as well, and I can say, that nothing makes Christmas lights prettier than fresh fallen snow, creating a winter wonderland experience that will take your breath away.
We, here at the Rio Colorado, are excited to be having so many guests join us for the holidays. For those of you who are unable to come visit us, we want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and when you get ready to come to the mountains, we invite you to give us a call. We are blessed to call Red River our home and we invite you to come share our mountains with us!
P.S. We would like to thank our friends and frequent guests Tony and Shirley Lopez of Duke City Photography for all the wonderful pictures they took during their recent visit!
