Winter at Rio Colorado
A great value for adventurous skiers
Winter months are a magical time in Red River. Everything transforms into a winter wonderland and playground. There is downhill skiing and snowboarding at the Red River Ski Area located 3-6 blocks from our property and The Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe area is just 2 miles up Bobcat pass.
Snowmobiling is a great way to spend an afternoon. There are miles of groomed trails for this sport around the area. For the young at heart the options are endless! You can make a snowman, or a snow fort.
Sledding is also a fun winter activity. We have one of the best sledding hills in town on the edge of our property. If you need a sled, stop by the office, we usually have some available for our guests to use.
Snowball fights are a common sight around town. Snow ice cream is a wonderful thing to enjoy as well as snow ice cones. Your imagination is your only limitation. We have many events in town during the winter months as well.
In January, The Red River Ski Area hosts The Winter Carnival. This event boasts snowmobile races, massive ice sculptures carved right before your eyes, snowman building, kid-friendly games and events, live music, shopping strolls, torchlight parades, fireworks, and more. Mardi Gras in the Mountains is a must experience, and is very family friendly. There are nightly Krewe balls (parties) during the week and Mardi Gras parades and bead tosses.
Valentine’s Day as well as President’s Day weekend book up early as February is a great month for skiing and playing in the snow too! Red River Ski Area also hosts Spring Break Beach weeks during March and end the ski season with the Pond Skim. Roads are plowed and salted on a regular basis and travel in and around the town is not an issue.
